Prepare My Heart – Day 10: Keep God’s Commands in Your Heart

I love to find and try new recipes. I wouldn’t consider myself a chef, but I can follow instructions. Over the years, I have learned that cooking is a science; as long as you can follow directions, you can achieve something edible.

Like anything in life, if you follow the instructions, you will get the expected results. If you don’t follow the directions, you jeopardize the outcome.

I imagine the Word of God like a recipe. If you obey God’s commands and add in a little faith with your obedience, you are sure to receive every blessing God has promised to you. It’s science.😉

When God gives a command, do you follow His instruction?

My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Proverbs 3:1-2

God promises us if we obey Him, we will live long and prosper (Deuteronomy 5:33). The key word is to obey. Obedieince is one of the main ingredients to cultivatiing your relationship with God.

Like a good parent raising their children, God gives teachings and guidelines to His children because He loves us. He gives specific instructions and commands to keep us safe, protected, and flourishing.

Every one of God’s commands has a promise attached to it.

When God commands His children to do something, He also gives promises in return. As you read the scriptures, take note of the promises God has made to you such as:

  • He will never leave you or forget about you (Deuteronomy 31:6).
  • Nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
  • He has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

If God tells you to do something, it is for your good.

The bible is God’s written word to mankind. The bible is not a book of “what not-to-dos”, but inside you will find God’s commands, guarantees, and promises. As you take time to study the scriptures, God will begin to reveal more to you concerning your life. The commands He gives are not to harm you, but to help you along the way.

As we prepare our hearts for the new year, let’s keep God’s commands within our hearts, and do as He says.

I enjoyed the scripture for today. If we read and truly hear God’s word, and store them in our hearts, He will give us an abudant life. A life filled with joy, peace, and love.
