Prepare My Heart – Day 8: Seek God With Your Whole Heart

The world has many preconceived notions about who God is. Everyone has their own personal ideas of who “The Big Man in Heaven” really is.

Where did He come from?

What does He look like?

How old is He?

You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

Do you ever find yourself wondering more about who God is? I know I do.

Although our human minds cannot begin to comprehend all the wonders of God, He is not a complete mystery to us. In fact, our Heavenly Father wants to reveal Himself to each one of us. All we have to do is seek God, and He will answer us.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

To “seek after” is to attempt to find or obtain something. Every time we seek after God, we are attempting to find Him. When we attempt to find God, He will meet us right where we are.

The Bible reveals to us many of the attributes of God. From the scriptures, we learn:

  • God is omnipotent (He is all-powerful)
  • God is omnipresent (He is everywhere)
  • God is omniscient (He knows all things)
  • He is truth (God cannot lie)
  • He is just (God always does what is right)

Since He knows all things, God sees your efforts to find Him. When you take the time to study, read your bible, or pray for someone in need, those things do not go unnoticed in Heaven. When your heart is pure to seek more of Him, you will find the answers you are longing for.

Becasue He is all of these things and more, we can never go wrong when we seek God for answers.

We must seek God to find the truth of who He really is. Many of us are interacting with God based on rumors and a false perception of Him instead of taking time to experience Him for ourselves.

Through movies and television, our culture has trained us to believe that God is an old man who sits in the sky waiting to punish us all. For that reason, many people don’t believe they can talk with Him. In fact, because people have believed a negative stereotype about God, they choose not to pursue a relationship with our Heavenly Father.

If you had the chance to ask God a question, what would you ask Him?

As we choose to pursue a relationship with God, He meets us right where we are.

Here’s a list of how you can begin to seek God daily:

  1. Read your bible. God speaks through His written Word to those whose hearts are longing for Him.
  2. Sing songs of praise and worship. The Bible tells us that God occupies the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3)
  3. Pray. When you talk to God in prayer, listen closely to hear His response.

As we prepare for the new year, let’s begin to actively pursue and seek after God. Practice talking to God throughout the day, and be patient to He what He has to say to you.
