Bible Study Series,  Prepare My Heart

Prepare My Heart – Day 16: The Heart Speaks

Jesus said,  “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matt. 12:34).

Immediately after, He then said, “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.” (Matt. 12:35)

In other words, who you are will be revealed by the words you say.

If you have a conversation with a stranger, you may be able to find out a lot about them based on the things they say. As you listen to their discussion, their jokes, or even their favorite music playlists, you will learn more about them and who they are – just based on a simple conversation.

Jesus pointed out multiple times that one’s words are reflective of his heart. Peter tried to deny Jesus, but his speech betray him. The people listening knew he had been around Jesus – even though he denied it multiple times.

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. Luke 6:45

What is in the treasury of your heart?

When we meditate on the truth of God’s Word, His truth begins to fill our hearts and our minds. We begin to believe what God says, and our conversation and discussions begin to reflect the light of God shining in our hearts. As you walk closely with the Lord, not only will your words reflect Jesusc Christ, but your actions will, too.

On the contrary, if your heart and mind are full of the things of the world, the words you say will mirror that lifestyle.

If we truly follow Christ, the things we say should reflect Him.

As we prepare our hearts, let’s be mindful of the words and thoughts we are allowing to be stored up in in the treasury of our hearts.

Are we filling our hearts with the light and love of the Word of God, or are we allowing ourselves to be filled with the cares es of this world?
